It’s been a long time!

Hi All…
Sorry it’s been so long since anyone from this house has made an update! It’s amazing how much time and energy someone so small can use up! I mean, he’s not even 2 feet tall yet, and he’s already added about 90 minutes to my “get out of the house time”!

I have to start getting ready to leave home SO much earlier than I used to! I can go from asleep, to showered and out the door in less than 20 minutes, by myself… but now, with Andrew in the picture, it’s at LEAST a 2 hour ordeal! He has to eat first, (there’s an hour and 1/2 right there) and then get the diapers changed, get dressed, hope he doesn’t barf all over the new outfit I just put on him, pack the diaper bag, holler at Ben and Al that we need to leave NOW! (just kidding on that last part… they’re usually waiting for Andy and I) Then, once I get out to the car, then I have to go through the diaper bag again, to make sure I have EVERYTHING we might need, which will most likely include his entire wardrobe, the can of formula, in case we are in an area where I can’t nurse, or, he gets too upset to nurse, in which case, I have to give him a couple ounces of formula, to calm him down, so he can settle in and nurse calmly…

So, as you can see, or maybe not, but I like to whine… I’m still not in the swing of this yet, and haven’t gotten Al and Ben organized enough for me to say, hey, go pack up the diaper bag, so we can go quicker… because they’d forget something that was vitally important, and oh goodness! the ramifications of that are mind boggling!

Al spends as much time as he can during his off time, when he’s not sleeping, holding and cuddling with Andy, and as he is a “hunt and pecker” with typing, if he were to try to update daily, while holding the baby, it could take more time than he has, if he had to do it one handed… It’s really cool how having this little guy in the house has turned my Big, strong, manly man of a husband into a gigantic mushball! He even cries during chick flicks now! It’s really cool. He’s so completely blown away by the emotions flowing through him over this little guy! Even after 3 1/2 weeks, I don’t think he still believes it’s for real.

Thank GOD he has calmed down a little bit though! Those first few days…. I almost had to choke him! Every little squeak or noise Andy made, it was like… “Is he ok?” “What’s wrong with him?” He has finally stopped doing that, except for when Andy does his little choking baby routine while he’s eating. He forgets to swallow now and then, and makes this little gasping noise, and then has a hard time getting his breath. That’s pretty scary when he does that. I sure wish he’d stop doing that!

OH! big news of the day… THis morning, I got my first real smiles!!or at least, I am fairly sure that they were real smiles… I was talking to him, and “beeping his nose”… and he smiled at me! He’s got dimples too! He’s gonna be such a heart breaker some day! Dark, curly hair, big dark eyes, and dimples to boot! GOOD GRIEF! We’ll be beating the girlies off with a stick!
